BILASPUR: Former deputy speaker of Chhattisgarh assembly and former MLA from Lormi Dharmjeet Singh quit Congress on Monday. In his resignation from the party, addressed to party high command, Singh has said that he would work under the leadership of Ajit Jogi. Ever since Ajit Jogi announced to launch a new, but yet unnamed party, over hundreds of Jogi supporters have quit Congress in the last couple of days.

However, Singh is the first senior Congress leader to have resigned from the Congress in Jogi’s support. Singh’s quitting Congress is not a big surprise, however, as he has been a staunch Jogi supporter all along. During the last year when Jogi’s son Marwahi MLA Amit Jogi had been launching his solo campaigns against the ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh over various issues without any support from the state Congress unit, Dharmjeet Singh was always seen standing behind Jogi.
Taking a swipe against state PCC chief Bhupesh Baghel, Singh said that Baghel has failed to launch any major campaign against the ruling BJP in the state. All he has done is to oppose and target Jogi. Singh said that on Tuesday, June 21, Jogi would formally announce the name of his new party at Thathapur, while state Congress is holding a convention at Marwahi the same day. He added that On Tuesday it would become clear as to who has better acceptance. Singh said that there was a strong need of an alternative in the state to effectively oppose the BJP and Jogi would provide the same.
